OCMC was established in 2011 by the 129th General Assembly with
the passage of House Bill 188 and is charged with studying Ohio’s Constitution, promoting
discussion of changes, and making recommendations to the Ohio General Assembly for the
amendment of the Constitution.
As provided in (Am. Sub.) H.B. 49, the main operating budget bill for fiscal years 2018-19,
as signed into law by Governor John Kasich on June 30, 2017:
The Ohio Constitutional Modernization Commission shall cease operations on or before July 1, 2017.
Notwithstanding section 126.29 of the Revised Code, the Director of the Legislative Service
Commission shall attend to any matters associated with winding up the affairs of the Ohio Constitutional
Modernization Commission.
